EASTON, PA (November 14, 2014) – R+D ARCHITECTURE, headed by Karen W. Ramsey AIA and William G. Dohe AIA, was awarded a coveted AIA PA Design Award for their design of the new headquarters for Trifecta Technologies, in Allentown, PA.

The Pennsylvania AIA’s Architectural Excellence Awards recognize significant achievements by AIA Pennsylvania members to contribute to a better and more sustainable built environment.  The awards were handed out at the Barnes Foundation on Wednesday, November 12, 2014.

The project was completed as a design-build delivery with the Construction Management firm Shane Patrick Associates of Allentown PA.  "As a longtime Center City resident with a vested interest in seeing Allentown prosper, I am very proud of the work we did on the Trifecta offices in the Schoen's Building," said Derrick Davis of Shane Patrick Associates. "Will Dohe and the team at R+D Architecture truly understood that we set out to design and build something that would be the archetype of Allentown's renaissance - something that not only reflects the city's past but, at the same time, mirrors the promising future. This award recognizes that success and I congratulate Will and his entire team."

“We are honored to have been given the opportunity to work with Shane Patrick and Trifecta on this project, and to be able to craft a new workspace that reflects Trifecta’s commitment to their employees and to the resurgence of Allentown as a thriving community,” said Will Dohe, principal-in-charge, of the project.  “We were particularly excited about being asked to take the design as far as we did by designing most of the furnishings and many of the fittings for the space.”

The jury board noted that the Trifecta design “is well thought out at multiple levels, from glazing details to furniture.”  They further noted that it is a “very simple approach to creating "raw" vs "cooked" design, resulting in a very straightforward, yet elegant solution."  "What is impressive is not so much what was added into the design, but how much they pared down the aesthetic and let the limited palette create a clean and sophisticated design that married the new with the existing fabric. The transparency, use of sustainable materials, and leaving the rich finishes of the existing walls and systems exposed, resulted in a very open and inviting work environment for a growing tech company.”

Doug Pelletier, President of Trifecta Technologies, had visited a number of other offices both regionally and on the West Coast, before retaining Shane Patrick and R+D.  The goal was to create a workspace to compete with workspaces found in NY or San Francisco.  “Will and his team really understood our goals to make an alternative workspace that was both very hip and very collaborative.”   He continues, “We really want our employees to embrace Allentown as a live-work community.  Our new offices are one strategy to get that to happen.  We congratulate R+D on being recognized for all their efforts on our behalf.”
